Chronic Insomnia may lead to Short Lifespan

According to the latest study presented by Laurel Finn at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Chronic Insomnia may lead to premature death, and other chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Researchers found out that there are four types of common insomnia: difficulty falling asleep, difficulty getting back to sleep, waking repeatedly and waking too early. According to the analysis proceeded from 1,872 participants. The overall mortality of these people were 3 times higher compare to people who did not have insomnia.

The risk of premature death is still under investigation. However, according to Finn, the risk of premature death is expecting to be 2 to 3 times higher among people who struggled to fall asleep, struggle get back to sleep, woek repeatedly and woke too early.

The study was supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; the National Institute on Aging; and the National Center for Research Resources. The results suggest a need for doctors to more effectively treat insomnia even if the patient does not have other chronic medical conditions.

The association between early death and chronic insomnia was independent of other self-reported chronic conditions that were taken into account, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and depression.
